Massive Clean Up of Southern End of Trail

March 7, 2011

I received an e-mail last week from Maria Holmes informing me that the great people at Comcast are going to partner with us again for a massive trail work day. This is the third time that Comcast has chosen to partner with the Friends of the White Pine Trail for one of their community outreach efforts. The true beneficiary of their massive volunteer work force and financial donations is the trail and all the people and communities that it represents. When Comcast shows up BIG things happen!

The Comcast event this year will take place on Thursday April 21st beginning at 4:00 pm. The goal for this year is to do a massive spring clearing of the trail from North Park street in Comstock Park all the way up to Rockford. With the help of the Comcast Crew, and hopefully a large group of our members, plus volunteers from the community, we will clear brush, remove trees, pick up debris and beautify the trail for the upcoming season of heavy trail usage! I am working on getting permission from The DNR to also do some construction projects that will add resources for trail users.

One of the notable comments that have been made by the Comcast volunteers is the fact that they receive such great appreciation from the trail users while they are working on the trail. If you cannot join us as a volunteer make sure you show your appreciation of the volunteers. On that day they will be out in force and would greatly appreciate your “THANK YOU COMCAST” as you pass them on the trail. Let them know you appreciate their efforts as they improve the trail that we all love and use!

I am also very happy to inform you that the Godwin High School Honor Society will be showing up for the 10th year in a row to help clean up the trail. These awesome kids show up ready to do work and make the trail beautiful for all of us. Again, whenever you see someone working on the trail, make sure you voice your appreciation. Chances are very good that they are a volunteer and the wages of all volunteers is the appreciation that they receive for their efforts.

The Godwin High School event will take place Tuesday April 26th. For both events I could use some volunteers to help organize and direct activities or just help with the projects at hand. Just hit reply to this e-mail if you’re interested in helping and I’ll get you the details.

And finally we have our next Friends of the White Pine Trial meeting this Wednesday at 7:00 p.m at the Plainfield Township offices in downtown Belmont. I hope to see you there! Hit reply if you have any questions or comments that you want addressed during the meeting and I will do what I can to bring them up.

The busy time for the trail and the Friends organization is upon us. I look forward to seeing you out on the trail!
