The “Friends” built a rest area between Belmont and Rockford in 2002.  This was a very popular spot for people to take a break as the east side of the trail has a dramatic drop-off to the Rogue River.

In 2010 on Memorial Day there was a freak storm dropping as much as 8 inches of rain in less than an hour (by locals living there).  The trail was severely damaged by the excessive rain.

Due to the reconstruction of the drain under the trail the benches have been removed until the area has been stabilized.

The benches will be relocated as close to the original area as possible when the area is ready.
